HISTORY
The Hendrickson story began in 1913 with the founding of The Hendrickson Motor Truck Company by inventor and businessman Magnus Hendrickson. This small Chicago-based manufacturing company built trucks often equipped with cranes, which were used to haul stone and other building materials.
In 1926, Hendrickson introduced the first tandem truck suspension, which mounted the axles on each end of an equalizing beam. This unique "walking beam" design distributed the truck's load evenly between the two rear axles, which improved traction and greatly reduced the effects of bumps and potholes in the road. The walking beam soon gained widespread acceptance among the industry's new 6x4 "six-wheeler" trucks, which allowed more payload.
In 1978, The Boler Company, whose holdings included manufacturers of leaf springs and metal bumpers, purchased Hendrickson. In the years that followed, Hendrickson would expand into or acquire additional businesses in related areas: trailer suspension systems, auxiliary axle systems, springs, metal bumpers, and other heavy-duty components.
Eventually, Hendrickson sold the truck manufacturing operation to focus solely on suspension systems and related components. Today, Hendrickson is comprised of state-of-the-art facilities, technical centers, and manufacturing centers committed to serving the transportation industry with innovative products that help improve productivity and profitability. Power Stroke History
The Power Stroke® Diesel story began in 1982 when the Ford Motor Company made a decision that would transform their Super Duty® pickups into the most highly regarded and hottest-selling trucks in America. In pursuit of a whole new level of durability, power, torque, and capabilities, Ford partnered with International Truck and Engine Corporation or ITEC (later re-named Navistar, Incorporated) to create a new standard in diesel engine technology that would help redefine the industry.
That first power plant, the 6.9L Indirect Injection (IDI) engine, featured a modest 170 HP and 315 lb-ft of torque. The truck world eagerly greeted that very first Power Stroke® diesel. Not long after, came the next generation Ford Super Duty truck with the amazing 7.3L IDI diesel engine, produced from 1988-1993.
1994 - 2003 The First Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel —The Legendary 7.3L.
In 1994, the 7.3L diesel engine was reborn. This groundbreaking new power plant revolutionized the diesel truck industry, with not just the addition of an all-new turbocharged, Direct Injection (DI), an incredible new power, but the birth of the Power Stroke® name. 7.3L features included a wastegate turbocharger, HUEI fuel injectors, and an air-to-air intercooler. The 7.3L engines were an instant hit in the trucking world. Production ran non-stop through early 2003. By that time, this engine's performance and durability had made the Power Stroke® name a legend among truckers.
Diesel Power Magazine ranked the 7.3L one of the top ten diesel engines ever produced. Today, over two million 7.3L engine-equipped Ford Trucks are still in operation – more than Chevrolet, GMC, and Dodge diesel, combined. 2003 - 2007 A New 6.0L Power Stroke® Clears The Air
In 2003, the next-generation 6.0L Power Stroke® introduced Ford Truck customers to a new engine with more power and lower emissions than the 7.3L. With its variable geometry turbocharger technology, exhaust gas recirculation system and advanced, second-generation fuel injection system, the new 6.0L was a groundbreaking engineering breakthrough. DURAMAX DIESEL ENGINE TRUCK SERVICE
Our St Augustine drivers depend on their diesel trucks and the Duramax diesel in their Chevy or GMC pickup and our diesel technicians keep them running at peak performance by making sure we have their maintenance done on time. The Duramax diesel engine has been consistently improved by Chevrolet / GMC over the last couple of decades and is fairly bulletproof. This diesel engine by GM is nothing short of a spectacularly powerful, reliable power plant for its line of pickup trucks. Since its conception, Duramax has been an innovative and respected brand, with over 1.5 million engines produced in the United States and some of the toughest engines on the market today.
The 6.6-liter Duramax Engines is produced by DMAX, a joint venture between GM and Isuzu in Moraine, Ohio first released in late 2001 replacing the old 6.5-L Detroit built engine. GM was the first to make this jump and it gave GM an added advantage in the diesel truck market. The Duramax Engine utilized the new Bosch Common Rail Fuel system. The early fuel systems included an ECM (Engine Control Module), CP3 Injection pump, FICM (Fuel Injection Control Module), and injectors all of which we are familiar with and work on here at Melvin's Auto & Truck Repair.
The later version fuel system did away with the FICM and utilize a CP4 injection pump. The Duramax Engine had some issues but they extended the warranty on the injectors to 200,000 miles due to failures that were widespread and there were a lot of diesel trucks in the shop to fix the issue. Changing the injectors on the LB7 Duramax Engines was time-consuming since they were located under the valve cover. The premature injector failure was actually a result of air bubbles in the fuel line. They accumulated in the CP3 pump so when the injector went to fire, the bubble would get between the injector plunger and the injector tip. With the bubble there, the injector plunger had no fluid damping when it comes into contact with the injector tip causing a small gap to form over time. Once that gap grows large enough fuel is allowed to flow through continuously since the rail is pressurized so high. The computer system was unable to determine if this is happening so the check engine light would not notify the driver. The only way to determine if this was happening was to measure the return fuel flow rate.

AIR BRAKE PRODUCTS
In 1997 Dayton Parts, LLC bought the Batco Co. based in Dallas, Texas. This acquisition not only bolstered our suspension parts coverage but also added a line of air brake and wheel attaching products. Batco was always an innovator in the heavy-duty parts industry. The first to have axle nut boards, to package brake parts as a “maintenance pak” (now referred to as “brake or cam kits”) and to have a full line of grade 8 wheel studs.
Since the acquisition, we’ve expanded our air brake offering with trailer axles, Marathon new lined brake shoes & shoe boxes, air valves, auto slacks and our own line of HD brake drums. We will continue the process of adding parts for all of the new air disc brakes that are coming into the market.
STEERING PRODUCTS
Dayton Parts is one of the first heavy-duty aftermarket companies to offer a complete line of heavy-duty steering components. Their kingpin kits contain all the necessary parts for a complete rebuild. The tie rod ends and drag links are supplied from OE approved sources with some of the broadest coverage in the aftermarket. They also provide a full line of power steering pump seal kits.
Their light and medium-duty steering products range from the small ¼ ton pick-ups to the 2 ½ ton straight trucks and they carry a complete line of ball joints, pitman and idler arms, center links, tie rod ends, and kingpin kits.
